Message from Wim Pols (continued)
...
They gave me an angioplasty on 2 coronaries and inserted a stent (kind of thin steel tube). There are more blockages; later they will determine whether it can be treated or not. First my heart has to recover. Because the time between the start of the cardiac stroke and the hospitalization was so long, there is a serious chance of permanent damage. The doctors were amazed that I felt better as soon as I did. I regard it as a miracle from GOD and the result of all the people who prayed for me.
Last Thursday I was dismissed from the hospital and was advised to listen to my body and to take things easy. Right now I am physically tired very quickly, and my body is saying slow down and take it easy, Wim! After doing things for an hour, I am quite tired. Geertje, my wife, keeps an eye on me and is doing a great job! She has been my fantastic mainstay for the last 33 years! She has done a great job over the last few weeks, putting off many activities and co-coordinating things, so that I don't overdue it. I am very grateful to her.
Next Tuesday I am going to the hospital for a scan, so they will know the condition of my heart.
In the meantime rehabilitation and trying to pick things up very slowly are the main agenda.
Recovery will take some four to six weeks. I really understand that I am at the crossroads of my life and have to make fundamental choices in what to do, what not to do, which activity to stop, and what to do in a different way.
Working 80 – 100 hours a week, as I was used to, is no longer a possibility. And to be honest, I don't want to anymore!, because I really hope to enjoy life for a good number of years to come. So choices are to be made, which is sometimes going to be difficult, but I will have to make them in the next few weeks.
I am not allowed to drive my car for four weeks, so I will be in and around my home. I am looking forward to the time that is ahead of me and will receive it with gratitude and grace.
Again I wish to thank you for your interest. It has really helped me a lot! Hopefully We will hear or see each other soon.
Greetings,
Wim
